film camera

since i started my course i have also learnt how to use a film camera, how to develop film, how to create a contact sheet and how to print images off the film using an enlarger. in order to create a contact sheet you get all of your developed film, you then place them in a film holder, you then get an 8 by 10 inches slip of photographic paper, and you place it under the film and expose it under an enlarger for a previously chosen amount of time, then you use the same process that you do for a photo-gram or a pin hole camera. after you have your contact sheet, you decide which photos you would like to print. you then place the film in the enlarger and make sure that you have the film centred. then you need to do a test sheet this is done by getting a 5 by 7 slip of photographic paper, and cutting it in half, then you place the paper under the enlarger and get a piece of card. you then use the card to only expose part of the image, then you expose the paper for 5 seconds at a time, while each time moving the card over therefore showing how the photo would look if it was exposed for 5,10,15,20,25 seconds. after deciding how long you are going to expose your image for, you create a final image. this is done by placing a 5 by 7 slip of paper, and then placing it under the enlarger. then you expose the paper for the previously selected amount of time. then you develop the image in the same way as you would develop a photo-gram.

graphics carousel

during graphics carousel  we learnt how to use a lot of programmes which will help us a lot in photography in later life. we also learnt how to frame our photos correctly in such a way to  catch the eye of the viewer.the different types of designs that are most subconciously powerful.
rule of thirds
golden ratio
diagonal
triangle
golden spiral
materials that we used during graphics carousel. photoshop, in design, adobe illustrater, a scanner, paper, pencils, ruler, nikon d3200,

process: during the graphics carousel we started off by learning typography, we learnt about the assender line, the x height, the baseline, and the dessender line. we had to find out a style of type that we liked, and then we wrote a word in the type. i chose the word typography. after that we went out and took pictures of things that resembled a letter of the alphabet. then we went upstairs to the fourth floor where we learnt how to position all our work correctly. and how to photoshop and use in design, and adobe illustrater. on the second day, we scanned the typography and photoshopped it. we also chose our favourite picture of the letter of the alphabet stuff. i chose the letter k. we were then shown how to create a poster type using the rule of thirds or the diagonal.

Media carousel

process: On the first day I spent the day doing a media taster day. During the day we had an assignment which was to create an advert for the pen company named Bic about the four coloured Bic pen. we started of by brainstorming ideas for our adverts. I was in a group with heather,Yasmine, and Stephen. our idea for the advert was to recreate a lynx advert. We pitched our idea along with the other groups. our idea was to have someone pull out a Bic four coloured Bic pen and then when I changed the colours the people around me start fainting. The other groups ideas were to have someone get into difficult situations and the Bic gets them out of the situation. Another idea was a girl getting mugged, she pulls out a Bic and then the muggers run away. The other groups idea was someone would drop an ordinary Bic pen in a drain, when they bent over someone would bend over them and offer them the four coloured Bic pen. After the class vote it was decided that my groups idea was going to be the advert.
We decided roles, then we filmed the advert. The advert was not as good as we hoped because the communication wasn't great between the pod and the theatre room. Also therefore the actors were not dong exactly as told because they didn't get the full instructions. in conclusion, communication could have been a lot better.
materials: bic pen, paper, studio, lights, cameras, head sets, sound booms, sound recorder.
technical skills: i have learnt to use a sound recorder, i also learnt some team working skills during the media carousel.

Art and Design carousel

This week in Art and Design we spent the morning scribbling to some music. The aim of that was too feel the music. We had to do this on sixteen pieces of A6 paper. After that we got an A2 paper where we had to choose our favourite sketches and copy them onto a moneic style piece of art work.
In the afternoon we came into the printing room and made some prints with bits of wallpaper trimmings and put them through the press. We came out with some interesting prints. The way you do this is to get some ink onto a big glass surface, then use a roller to create a flat surface. Them you get a sheet of plastic, and roll the ink onto it. Make sure the ink is flat then place the parts of wallpaper strips onto it. Then put some paper over it and put it through the press.
On the second day we spent the morning cutting up paper and producing patterns, then taking  photos of it while experimenting with different angles of light.

Duirng art and design we used lots of materials such as:
A6 paper, A2 paper, graphite pencils, charcoal, chalk, scissors, rulers, pen,

process: we did some abstract drawings onto some A6 paper, then we copied them onto the A2 paper, the we used scissors to cut the paper up and made shapes in the paper, then we put some lights on the table and placed the paper on the table, then we changed the angle of the lights and the paper in order to create shadows over the paper, then we took photos of the work.

Geoffrey Bartholomew

Geoff Bartholomew is a photographer who lives in London and uses mostly pin hole camera photography as the style of photography he specialises in. Geoff Bartholomew showed an early interest in camera-less photography when he started his studies of photography at West Kent College between the years of two thousand and seven- two thousand and eleven. While Geoff was at West Kent College, he spent a lot of his time working in the dark room, creating photograms, pinhole cameras, and developing film that he had shot.
During Geoff's course of photography at West Kent College, he set up his very own dark room In his parents garage. This enabled him To carry on his work at home. After achieving his HND in photography from West Kent College, Geoff went on to continue his studies of photography at Camberwell College of Arts between the years two thousand and eight- two thousand and eleven. during his study of photography, he was able to really experiment, and put his unique ideas to the test. In one of Geoff's exhibitions in two thousand and twelve for Camberwell College of Arts, Geoff created several pin hole cameras And sent them through the post. During the pin hole cameras journeys, it was able to collect some really impressive data.
When the pin hole cameras arrived they were opened, and the effects that the light and the road had on the pin hole cameras were amazing. Geoff expresses his opinion of the final, completed works in this quote."This led me to employ diverse methodologies, which bring together motifs from a wide variety of sources including Neoclassical sculpture, early 17th century landscape painting and twentieth century abstraction." This quote is powerful because it shows how photography can capture elements from all of the ages, and from all of the genres with on piece of art work. After studying at Camberwell College of Arts, Geoff decided to further his knowledge in photography by studying At the Royal College of Arts. Between the years of two thousand and twelve - two thousand and fourteen. While Geoff studied at the Royal College of Arts, he focused on film photography as well as pin hole cameras.

Using monochrome film, Geoff was able to create some really powerful and meaningful pieces of art work. After achieving a master's qualification from the Royal College of Arts, Geoff travelled to places such as Milan,Madrid and many other city's while all the time improving his work and trying out new ideas. Geoff enjoyed his time in Milan so much that he stayed and studied there for a year. During this time he traveled around places like Lake Como creating incredible pin hole cameras.  when Geoff finished his travels, he decided that London was where he wanted to live because the life and things that happen are able to create a lot of good situations and opportunities to excel in his art work.
Geoff also likes to lead a very basic and nomadic lifestyle, which is why he bought a small boat, on which he can travel around the rivers of London and document what he sees through the means of pin hole cameras.  In London in the year two thousand and fifteen, Geoff turned an entire old fashioned phone box into one giant pin hole camera. This created a really nice effect. Geoff also went out at took pictures during the Brixton riots. By seizing the opportunity to take some pictures he was able to capture elements of the riot that were otherwise ignored. Such as the assaults, and the destruction of shops. He was also able to capture a photo of a bin lorry on fire.
