evaluating class work

You are going to look at another person's work

1.Firstly use 5 words to describe that work
monochromatic, ordered, monumental, structured, clean.

2. Now comment on the images form

This means looking at the formal elements of an artwork.
  • What is the medium of the work? monochrome pigment print.

  • What kind of shapes or forms can you find? rectangles, curves

  • Which  techniques have they used? rule of thirds

  • What kinds of textures can you see? this photo lacks many textures.

3. Finally consider the mood and meaning of the work

Mood means looking at how the artist has created a certain atmosphere or feeling.
  • How does the work make you feel? emotional

  • Why do you think you feel like this? its personal

  • Does the colour, texture, form or theme of the work affect your mood? yes

The decisive moment

this monochromatic image in the style of the decisive moment is cool, however i also like the reflection of the stranger in the gritty water.
the mood:
when i saw this picture, I had a lot of different feelings from it. for example i felt that the general feel to the image was quite depressing, however there was a slight feel of humour for me because the man is about to get soaking wet.
what is the medium of the work?
in this photo Henri Cartie Bresson used the style of photography called "the decisive moment" this is a style of photography that uses a method of waiting somewhere and waiting for someone to come into shot.

panoramic photography

today we learnt how to stitch pictures together, this is possible to do with phones however with a camera it will drastically increase the quality of your photos. when stitching photos together you have to overlap the photos you take so that all of the photo is linked up and there is no deleted pics.

final photrograms

for my final order and chaos shoot, i chose to do a chaotic photogram showing how the way water falls and disperses over a pain of glass is never the same. The way i completed the photograms was by placing a slip of photographic paper under a sheet of transparent glass and then splatter water over the glass. then you expose the paper for 5 secs. the light travels through the water in a different way which creates a really cool effect.

library sesh.

on Monday we went to the library to try and find inspiration from the photography books. We had to select a book and look through it to get ideas of photos to create for our final prints for our final piece of the project "order and chaos". I looked at a Michael Crewdson book. i ended up being unsuccessful in the library, but I came up with my own theme which was the city.

subjective objective

in todays lesson we learnt about subjectivity and objectivity, we had to define the two words.
subjectivity:the quality of being based on or influenced by personal feelings, tastes, or opinions.
objectivity:the quality of being objective.
we then had to choose a photo from our favourite photographer and evaluate it.
I like this picture because it shows how solidarity can be beautiful, this photo also makes you think how nature can survive in incredibly harsh conditions.

film camera

since i started my course i have also learnt how to use a film camera, how to develop film, how to create a contact sheet and how to print images off the film using an enlarger. in order to create a contact sheet you get all of your developed film, you then place them in a film holder, you then get an 8 by 10 inches slip of photographic paper, and you place it under the film and expose it under an enlarger for a previously chosen amount of time, then you use the same process that you do for a photo-gram or a pin hole camera. after you have your contact sheet, you decide which photos you would like to print. you then place the film in the enlarger and make sure that you have the film centred. then you need to do a test sheet this is done by getting a 5 by 7 slip of photographic paper, and cutting it in half, then you place the paper under the enlarger and get a piece of card. you then use the card to only expose part of the image, then you expose the paper for 5 seconds at a time, while each time moving the card over therefore showing how the photo would look if it was exposed for 5,10,15,20,25 seconds. after deciding how long you are going to expose your image for, you create a final image. this is done by placing a 5 by 7 slip of paper, and then placing it under the enlarger. then you expose the paper for the previously selected amount of time. then you develop the image in the same way as you would develop a photo-gram.
